An Extraordinary Day

I have to tell you that I am usually one of those people that doesn't get all excited about things like holidays or birthdays.  They come and they go without much fanfare for the most part. And so when my birthday rolled around on Friday, I really didn't give it much thought.  I have to say now, looking back, that it was one of the best birthdays I have had in many years.  I woke up and the very first thing I heard was "Happy Birthday, I Love You".  You tell me, is there any better way to start a day?

One of the things that Mars has done for my birthday every year is to bake me a pie.  I am not much of a "cake" person.  I like cake, don't get me wrong,  but I would so much rather have a pie for the most part. Over the years he has made all sorts.  Pecan, peach, apple, and even lemon meringue. The year he baked the lemon meringue it was so good that it was gone in less than an hour.  I am NOT kidding.  We inhaled it!  Since we were having company later that evening he had to bake us another one.  Now that was some kinda pie!  This year he decided to make a peach cobbler, using some of the peaches I had canned a couple of years ago.  It came out great!  I'll post the recipe soon.  Its one of those that is really easy to make and takes very little time to whip up.  Oh, and did I mention.... It was really really good.

I got a call from my Mom, wishing me a happy birthday. It was great to talk with her even though our connection was really bad. Hey, what can I say... Skype is really cheap inexpensive and I still technically have a phone. The call kept getting dropped so if you want to be technical, she called me 5-6 times!!  LOL I don't care... we had a good chat!

My friend Half-Pint from the prepper's chat room sent me beautiful scarf which arrived the day before my birthday.  Check out my last post about that.  Come to find out that it was sent as a Christmas present, but due to the wonders of the postal system it was timed with absolute perfection and arrived just in time for my birthday!

Mushroom and Bud had to go to the Big City for the day.  Both had doctors to see and some errands to run.  That left Mars and myself  "home alone"  for the day.  He puttered around in the greenhouse for awhile. The gas heater that Mrs M has set up out there hadn't been working properly and so he installed a part that Bud had picked up a couple of days ago.  Then cleaned out the jets and found a big spider web "nest".  I'm happy to say that it is working just like it should be now!!  It is so nice to have a greenhouse to putter around in.  Mrs M has graciously given some rein to do whatever "floats your boat" in there.  He planted a bit more lettuce and the last of the cauliflower seed the other day. I need to find some more as well as some cabbage.

I did some laundry, surfed the net and puttered around most of the day. I really like days like that. No big chores or serious things to take care of.  I also attempted to make some fudge.  That little experience deserves its very own post so I'll get back with you on that one!

Mrs M and Bud got home late in the afternoon.  Before she got back to the house she called and asked Mars to start a fire in the grill. You should have seen how big my eyes got when I saw what they had brought home.  Fixings for a dinner fit for a king. (or in this case Queen) I wish I had taken pictures of it all.  Mrs M brought home some rib-eyes steaks that I swear were at least two inches thick.  And they also bought me a wonderful chocolate cake with German Chocolate icing!  I was and still am quite taken aback at the generosity and the thoughtfulness of one of the best birthday dinners a girl could wish for.  Rib-eyes steaks grilled to perfection (thanks hunny) and a ginormous baked potato with all the fixings. Top it off with Birthday cake and Ice Cream. Oh, and don't forget the scrumptious Peach Cobbler. I must tell you that it touched my heart to have so many blessings in one day.

Pretty cool, yes?  Well it got even better. The reason I say that is that even my internet friends got in on it all.  One of the best friends I have ever known (via the internet) also sent me a present and her best wishes.  Felinae, of  Tales From the Scratching Post got together with Mrs M and sent me a pair of really nice ladies long johns.  Top and bottoms in the perfect size no less! And a warm woolen pair of socks.  They know I can't handle the cold and came up with the perfect gift!  ( Fel, I seriously almost cried when I opened the box.  Thank you so very much.) Such a thoughtful gift, knowing how me and winter tend NOT to get along.

To top it all off... I received tons and tons of birthday wishes from all my FaceBook friends.  Again, I almost cried with happiness from all the well wishes from all of you.
Like I said, I think I had one of the best birthdays I have ever had.  I didn't even freak out over the rapidness of the years speeding by me!

Again I would like to say to each and everyone of you ... Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart.  It was a wonderful day.

  4. Happy Birthday! A gal SHOULD be treated like a Queen at least once a year.

  5. Happy Birthday and am glad you are having a great day.
BTW, that slogan you have at the top of the page that begins "If you always do. . .", it is the same as Doug's motto on the "Know the Cause" TV show.
