This part runs from the top of the main garden to the lower garden. In the middle where the pole bean row is we've got a faucet. Now I can water the two new red buds without having to drag two hoses to get it done.
Then he dug trenches to reach out to those trees in the front of the property.
There's now a faucet down there. The next project will be moving the rabbits down under those trees with a permanent home complete with a self watering line for them. Woot!!! no more hauling gallon jugs to their hutches!!! We have enough old tin from the barn he'll use. The plan is to have a removable back on it to block the winter winds. More on that later.
See that trench dug to the right? Later on he wants to plant fruit trees up on the top of the hill. There is also a big garden spot over there. Yet another project on the list.
The trenches are dug at about 17" and well below the freeze line. Here's the water line he used. It's one inch poly tubing. It's also the kind he hooked up to the RV and the barn.
The line now runs down to the lower garden across the driveway and ends with a faucet!!!! (I took some pictures of the finished project but you had to look hard to see it once the pipe was installed and the dirt all tamped down.
We've been dragging hoses down there to get water to the irrigation system. It's also close to the future goat's home.
Mars did a great job! That's a whole lot of digging.
And there you have it! The Newest Project!
Can I borrow Mars for a month or so when I move up north?
ReplyDeleteHi Lamb,
DeleteI can't wait to hear if you get your house. You just might need a helping hand.
Good Luck,
Sci
SCI,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great job Mars did, that's a lot of work, and it sure makes a world of difference. I hate pulling and dragging hose of any type. I love having the convenience of faucets where you need them. In my book this is a really big thing!!! Did he do all of this digging by hand?
Hugs to you and Mars.

DeleteSandy,
DeleteNow that the land is paid off we can put that $$ to good use. We did the budget last month and this project finally got going! I hate hauling hoses too. We have two industrial type hoses that are so hard to drag around. I absolutely love all these faucets! They are going to make life so much easier! As you said its a really BIG thing.
Hugs to you n yours (and that dang beanie weeney
In answer to your question about the digging, he used a shovel silly!!! ;-)
Hugs to you n yours ( and that killer beanie too)

I cannot drag hoses any longer. Well, I can, but that puts me back three days in bed.
DeleteI think that is spectacular! I would be so pleased and proud of him, too.
I hear you on that Linda, dragging hoses these days will mess me up too. Especially those big industrial ones we have.
DeleteI'd have to agree, It IS spectacular!!!
Poor guy has a bad shoulder and did all thSDat too. He certainly amazes me all the time!
Sci
Excellent! That's wonderful and will certainly ease the watering.
ReplyDeleteDo you think the rain you had helped this happen through making the ground softer to dig the channels into...? ;)
Dani,
DeleteThanks! I'm really liking it already. We live on the side of a fair size hill. We're lucky that the 3 terraces were here. It's a pain to walk up and down all day much less hauling hoses.
As for the rain, it had everything to do with making it easier to dig. We were talking about that very same thing a few days ago.
Thanks for stopping by.
Sci
Great job - can he come to our place?
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Red
Red,
DeleteIt sounds like I should do some sort of raffle. LOL!!!
Good to see you. It's really been awhile.

Mars is a monster robot of extreme proportions and must run on pure octane!! That was an undertaking for a landscaping business for an astronomical fee. As for goats....everyone on the fire department knew I was a pushover for animals. Naturally, one of the men brought in a pigmy goat baby, knowing I'd take it home. What ensued were hoof prints all over my car, a picnic table no longer usable and me trying to find another sucker. On the other hand, my nephew lives on the apex of a hill he owns, and his goats can be seen happily munching the grass where a lawn mower can't go.
ReplyDeleteLJ,
DeleteSometimes I think he IS running on octane. Not bad for a man getting ready to be 60. Trust me I've heard that before about the landscaping business and the cost of this job.
So did the nephew take the goat to Grass Goat Heaven? Or did some sucker get to keep it?
With folks like Carolyn (Krazo Acres) And Kat (Self Sustained Living) talking about all the stuff they have to do with the goats I'm starting to think I'm not ready just yet for them. I'd really like to have some dwarf goats for milking BUT I can't see me milking a goat just yet!
Thanks for making me laugh out loud. We all need to laugh a little more, don't you think?

some people will say "so what?" - well those people would be idiots! that is a major accomplishment and you should be very proud of him and he should be proud of himself! jam is in the process of doing the exact same thing! he plans to trench some pipe to the greenhouse....right now we have a hose in there and several other hoses that extend all around our yard but even though i don't mind lugging hoses, he plans to to do just as Mars has done.
ReplyDeletekudos to Mars. and yes - you need goats. because we all need to read about you chasing baby goats around the house, around the yard, baby goats eating your curtains, baby goats chewing down all of your newly planted orchard trees - bahahahahaahah! oh gurl - go get yourself some goats!!!!
much love to you and Mars. and give him a big slap on the back from me. that was an enormous job and he did it beautifully!
your friend,
kymber
kymber,
DeleteI could give a rats a$$ about "those" folks. This was a project that made sense. We've got water now to the lower garden without dragging out two hoses. Awesome! I'm so proud of him, He did a great job. The line out to the upper part of the land was a surprise for me,and a real great idea to go on and do it now while he had everything open.
I'd agree that it would be nice for you to have a faucet (or two) in the green house. (Did I mention how much I love your greenhouse?)
About the goats... I dunno . LOL even you are scaring me about the dang things!
I will most certainly let him know about the back slap on the back! He'll love it.
Hugs to you n Jam (and scritchs to the fur babies)
Sci
mars buddy!!!
ReplyDeleteyou have completed what i haven't even started yet - it is SUCH a big job and 17" down is amazing!!! that poly you used will expand and contract with freezing to boot - just in case!!
fantastic job!!!
Jam,
DeleteHe just nodded and said thanks. Oh, and he said have fun when you get yours done. I'm pretty sure that had a bit of sarcasm in it. lolllzz He wanted the trench to be lower than the freeze lines here.
He used the same poly when he got the RV hooked up. We haven't had problems with it so far as they are below the freeze line too. We've had several hard freezes since he put it in too.
Remember to take pictures when you do yours!
Sci
Good thing to do! Dragging heavy hoses is no fun...
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! I hate dragging hoses around.
DeleteBravo
ReplyDeleteThanks Rob!!!!
DeleteWell done, Mars! Well done!
ReplyDeleteI will relay your message to him Kind Sir

Looks great! Go Mars!!! :)
