DIY Pour Spout For Mason Jars

I ran across an interesting idea somewhere.  I can't remember if it was on Face Book or Pinterest so I can't give a h/t for the great idea.

You know those cartons that have the pour sprouts on them?  Like on orange juice cartons? Well I found an excellent use for them and it's super simple to do.

Take an empty carton and open it up. (notice the markdown? Yet another cheap frugal item lol) Get a pair of scissors and cut  the part of the  that has the pour spout on it.

Then you trim around the edges of the pour spout using the jar rim as a template.  Grab a ring and put it on snugly.  That's it.  Now you have a pour spout  on your jar!  It makes it so much easier to pour from a jar. I use it for my DIY French Vanilla Coffee Creamer.  Pretty neat, huh?

  1. That's a neat idea. I am terrible at pouring liquids from a mason jar and 99% of the time end up with a spill.
    Thanks Sci!

    1. Mama Bear,
I have the same problems with pouring stuff out of a mason jar. When I saw this idea I was like "Wow!" Especially when I'm trying to pour creamer in my coffee cup I'm never able to get exactly how much I would like. Glad you like it too!

    1. kymber,
You know what a clutz I am at times. At least now I've got some control on how much I can pour without spilling. You know if I run across something this cool I just have to share it!

  3. Another good idea for mason jars is to use the pour spout from a salt box. Trim around the lid of the empty box and substitute it for the disposable jar lid. I like this one, though - bigger opening and can be used for liquids as well as dry ingredients. Great idea!

  4. Not bad. You never know what you can do with something that would be thrown away til you sit down and try to figure it out. Surprising the things that pop out of the thought process sometimes.

    1. I think someone had one of those "ah ha" moments. It's so weird how somethings just pop into your head sometimes. This one was a winner!

  5. SCI,

Now that's a great idea and very frugal. Something I would use all the time. Another, you can use an old pump device from a soap bottle and do the same thing with a jar and make your own soap dispenser.

    1. Sandy,
I'm pretty sure I'll be using this all the time. I never thought about a soap bottle pump like that! What would you use to hold the pump in the jar? That's a great idea too.
      Hugs to you and yours,

P.S. Are you getting any rain? We've got a little shower going on right now. If it weren't for the shower I'd still be out there pulling weeds. Good timing though, I didn't realize what time it was. Got the clothes off the line just in time too!
