Pictures Anybody?

A good friend of mine told me once that if you get stuck while trying to figure out what to blog about you can always fall back on pictures.  Now I don't know how true that is but I happen to agree with her.  I love pictures. Yours OR mine! I have taken quite a few pictures of day to day stuff that I haven't shared.  I'm sure it would bore you silly anyway. Kind of like looking at Great Aunt Sally's vacation pictures from last summer.  So you have had fair warning.  Now is the time to click that Red X in the upper right hand corner if you want to be spared!

We had pizza for dinner the other night.  Not that cardboard stuff straight out of the freezer, but pizza with homemade crust and your choice of toppings!  We all have our favorites around here and individual pizza's are just what the doctor ordered!
This next one is a picture of some of the "magic" beans that are growing out in the garden.   Snapped and ready to go.  Aren't they a pretty purple?  Mushroom added some bacon bits and onions and let them cook just a little while.
Here they are ready to eat!  Yup that's them.  Where did all the purple go?  I guess it will remain a mystery.  The magic here is in the fact that they sure do disappear in a hurry! No leftovers this round.

And this one was taken while driving on the way to Tulsa one morning.  What a beautiful start to a early Fall day.

Miss Kitty loves to hang out in the trees.  She has become fascinated with trying to catch a squirrel. No luck yet but you never know...... Mars has been ridding the  trees of a few pesky pecan snatchers himself the last day or two.  Three in the freezer and counting.....
Mushroom's husband Bud is into airguns.  Really really into airguns!  I just thought this was a super cool picture and so I thought I would share it.  Quite  an interesting hobby wouldn't you say?  Did I mention that he is into airguns?

This is one of the loaves of Italian Rustic Bread that has become a favorite of mine here lately.  See the spatula in the background?  This is one HUGE loaf of bread!  For those of you who know how much I love(d) my bread machine I have a surprise for you.  I haven't used it now in almost three months.  Yep, we have been making it from scratch.  Mushroom is on a mission to teach me how to make bread from scratch.  LOL It's working too!

This has to be one of the strangest looking kittens I have ever seen. The stray mama cat wandered up one day and hasn't left yet.  She is an Abyssinian mix and an interesting looking cat in her own right.  She only has a partial tail too.  This little guy ended up with NO tail at all.  Someone mentioned that this picture sort of looks like a catlike chupacabra .  They make a good point!  I AM glad to report that the kitten seems to be morphing into something that more closely resembles a cat.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.  It is supposed to be a picture perfect one around these parts.  Better enjoy them  while you can because winter is on the way.  We are forecast to have a cold front move in around Monday and drop the temperatures down quite a bit.

  6. i only grow the purple beans...they have better resistance to insects and will take colder temps. The funny thing is, when you dehydrate them, you blanch them and they turn green, but after they dehydrate, they turn purple again!
I pickle them too (yum!)and they tend to stain the pickle juice a little purple too.

  7. Bread:
    10.5 cups of bread flour
    4 cups warm water
    2 tblsp yeast
    1/2 cup olive oil
    2 tblsp Kosher salt

I use a mixer to make this but it can be made by hand with enough muscle. Use some of the water to proof the yeast. Add about a tsp of sugar to feed the yeast. Mix water, oil and salt and stir to dissolve the salt. When the yeast is ready, add to water and oil. Pour water into flour and mix thoroughly. If using a mixer, let it knead till the bowl is clean and all flour incorporated. If the bottom doesn't thoroughly mix in, dump out on a flat surface and knead thoroughly. Spray inside of a turkey roaster and put bread inside to rise. Make sure you put on the lid. When the lid rises, the bread is ready to shape. Dump out onto a heavily floured flat surface and bring in the sides a bit to shape into a long loaf without pushing out the air. Roll onto a greased half sheet pan and allow to rise again. When it looks doubled in bulk, bake at 375 till nicely browned and the loaf sounds hollow. usually about 40-45 minutes. My oven thermostat is off, so I am guessing at this. Your oven may take longer or not. Cool on a pair of cake racks and enjoy.

  8. Sorry, I forgot to say that the floured smooth side should be up. Be sure to tuck in the odd edges to make a nice smooth loaf.
